I believe that Lean expands the mindset of traditional management systems making it more inclusive of all individuals. it’s more about how we solve problems rather than controlling the environment we are in. What’s your experience? Is our personal life much different?

The WHY: we are surrounded with opportunities to identify and fix problems…From our workplaces to our families and personal relationships. Is becoming lean the only and right way to succeed? should we all become lean? Or can you get the same result without lean?

The WIIFM: If we are surrounded by opportunities to identify and fix problems, the more the team and culture of the organization is dedicated to becoming lean, the better the solutions. Why? Because the team is naturally driven to solve and eliminate problems.

my Advice: As a Lean Leader myself, I know that I directly impact the culture of the organization and its perception of Lean. If I didn’t ask the right questions and behave in an optimal way, my teams suffered. Try to put pride aside. If you don’t, your teams will suffer and will never become Lean.

  • PERSONALLY: Becoming lean isn’t easy…It’s about changing behavior. like: Being more teachable and “seeking first to understand”. As with all things lean, it’s a process. Becoming lean in one’s personal life is probably more about developing the attributes of a lean professional rather than proper application of a lean tool. Recognizing that it’s a process means that we need to be patient and forgiving of ourselves when we make mistakes.
  • PROFESSIONALLY: Becoming Lean is also about behavior. how is the culture of the organization? Is the team cohesive? Do they seek blame first? Or are they relentless in pursuit of root cause? Not all businesses are able to become lean. The ones who struggle most often are seeking power or are influenced by pride. Unfortunately, until the negative influences are removed, the team will never succeed in becoming lean.

Becoming lean is having and harnessing A Lean mindset. Which teaches that failure is just an opportunity to learn and try again. The mindset earned through continuous process improvement and culture change really does change the individual and how they lead/Coach others. But first, pride and power seeking MUST be set aside.
